Dinamo Zagreb 2 - 4 FT NEC Nijmegen

Linssen’s Double Fuels NEC’s 4-2 Turnaround at Dinamo

À ne pas manquer Score Futmetrix: 97/100. NEC’s 4-2 win matters because a match Dinamo seemed to wrestle into their hands became a sharp European away-day statement.

A slow fuse, then fireworks

The opening half-hour was a slow fuse; then Stadion Maksimir caught fire. NEC Nijmegen struck first in the 25th minute, with Clement Bischoff finishing after Noe Lebreton’s assist, but Dinamo Zagreb answered through Dion Drena Beljo eight minutes later. Dinamo controlled possession with 58 per cent and kept pressing: Matteo Perez Vinlöf set up Beljo’s first, then the striker turned the match around in the 37th minute. That burst came amid 31 combined shots and 15 on target, not a cautious European chess match. Dinamo had the territory and the louder attacking numbers, but NEC showed they could punish any lapse. The Intensity climbed quickly, and the scoreline started moving faster than either defence could settle. Every attack carried a threat, and both goalkeepers would soon be kept busy.

The moment NEC seized control

VAR delivered the night’s sharpest interruption. In the 36th minute, Luka Ivanušec’s goal was cancelled; a minute later, Beljo put Dinamo 2-1 ahead. The home side seemed to have seized the game, but Bryan Linssen levelled just before half-time, finishing a Clement Bischoff delivery. Nine minutes after the restart, Linssen struck again to put NEC in front. That 54th-minute goal was the pivot: it turned a frantic exchange into a chase for Dinamo and a counter-attacking opportunity for NEC. Dinamo’s 2.62 expected goals and five big chances show how much they created; NEC’s 1.25 expected goals and one big chance underline the gap between volume and conversion. NEC’s goalkeeper made seven saves, so this was not a win built on territorial control. The Balance of the contest swung on ruthless finishing, not possession.

A statement finished in Zagreb

Dinamo kept asking questions, but the finish belonged to NEC. The visitors faced 16 home shots, 10 on target, yet their keeper’s seven saves held the line while Dinamo’s own goalkeeper was required to make only one stop. NEC had 15 attempts and just five on target, but converted four; that sharp contrast explains the 4-2 away win better than possession alone. Tjaronn Chery supplied the final blow in the 80th minute, extending the margin after Linssen’s double had already flipped the match. NEC Nijmegen leave Stadion Maksimir with a major European boost, while Dinamo Zagreb must reckon with how five big chances and 58 per cent possession still ended in defeat. At this early league-stage point, the result lands as a jolt: NEC can carry a comeback win forward, while Dinamo must confront how a side with so much attacking promise was punished for failing to close the door.
