Al-Ahli Defy the Odds in Ten-Man Quarter-Final Triumph
Highly Entertaining Futmetrix Score: 73/100. A stunning display of resilience saw the hosts overturn a self-inflicted deficit to secure their ticket to the semi-finals.
A Nightmare Unfolds
The Stakes could not have been higher at Alinma Stadium for this single-leg quarter-final, but the hosts began by pressing the self-destruct button. Al-Ahli Jeddah found themselves trailing after 19 minutes when A. Majrashi turned the ball into his own net. The situation shifted from bad to disastrous just before the break. Majrashi's calamitous afternoon culminated in a straight red card for a serious foul at the 37-minute mark. Johor Darul Takzim FC edged possession in the first half, looking to calmly dictate the tempo and twist the knife into their numerically disadvantaged opponents.
The Kessie Catalyst
Rather than retreating, the ten men struck back with a sudden surge of Intensity. The turning point arrived deep into first-half stoppage time. Galeno orchestrated a brilliant move to set up F. Kessie, who hammered home a vital equaliser in the 45th minute. This critical strike completely shifted the psychological Balance of the tie. Johor Darul Takzim emerged for the second half visibly stunned, their numerical advantage entirely nullified by Al-Ahli's renewed ferocity. The visitors failed to convert their slight possession edge into meaningful dominance, struggling to break through the middle.
Galeno Seals the Comeback
The miraculous turnaround was completed just nine minutes after the restart. Z. Al Hawsawi delivered a precise ball for Galeno, who finished with clinical precision to make it 2-1. From there, the Saudi outfit dug deep, absorbing pressure without ever truly looking breached. Despite JDT pressing for an equaliser to keep their continental dreams alive, they managed only three shots on target all afternoon. The defensive wall held firm, and Al-Ahli progress to the semi-finals, surviving a massive scare to prove they have the grit required for championship football.
Key Questions
How did the red card for A. Majrashi impact the match?
Despite going down to ten men, Al-Ahli Jeddah rallied dramatically, scoring twice to overcome the numerical disadvantage and secure victory.
What made Wenderson Galeno the Man of the Match?
Galeno was the attacking catalyst, providing the crucial assist for the equaliser before scoring the decisive winning goal himself.
What does this mean for Al-Ahli Jeddah's season?
This gritty comeback seals their progression to the AFC Champions League Elite Semi-finals, keeping their pursuit of continental glory firmly alive.
What is the Futmetrix Score?
The Futmetrix Score is our 0-100 verdict on how entertaining a match is. We look at intensity, balance, stakes, and star quality to tell you if it's worth your time.
Two Steps From Glory
Highly Entertaining Futmetrix Score: 76/100. With semi-final tickets on the line, Al-Ahli's devastating attack makes them overwhelming favorites against a resilient Johor side.
The Setup
Al-Ahli Jeddah welcome Johor Darul Takzim FC to King Abdullah Sports City on April 17, 2026, for a massive AFC Champions League Elite quarter-final clash. A staggering Stars rating highlights the sheer individual quality on the pitch, particularly for the hosts who boast an explosive attack averaging three goals per game. Their impressive Form underlines their heavy favoritism, while the visitors arrive hoping to defy the odds. A modest Balance score points to a potential mismatch on paper, but the soaring Stakes of knockout football mean Johor cannot be discounted entirely if they can frustrate the Saudi giants early.
Key Battle
Johor's attacking hopes rest heavily on the shoulders of Marcos Guilherme. The Brazilian forward must find a way past Al-Ahli's defensive linchpin, Roger Ibañez. If Ibañez neutralizes Guilherme's pace and clever movement, the visitors will struggle to find an outlet, allowing the hosts to press forward with absolute impunity.
Our Prediction
Al-Ahli will control the tempo from the first whistle. Johor will be forced to sit deep and absorb pressure, but the hosts' constant attacking waves and superior firepower will eventually break them down. Expect a comfortable 3-0 victory for the home side as they march toward the final four.
